Stops Signs at the following:
Rancho Viejo Boulevard and Via Punto Nuevo
Rancho Viejo Boulevard and Calle Agua Clara
The Santa Fe County Public Works, Traffic Division, would like to notify motorists of a new traffic pattern change that includes new stop signs being installed, in the Rancho Viejo La Entrada Subdivision, on Rancho Viejo Boulevard. Currently only the traffic approaching Rancho Viejo Boulevard from Via Punto Nuevo and Calle Agua Clara must stop.
On Monday, September 11, 2017, motorists on Rancho Viejo Boulevard will be required to stop, hence making these intersections four way stop conditions.
New advance warning signage, new pavement markings, the temporary placement of message boards and implementation support from the Santa Fe County Sherriff’s office will assist in initiating and enforcing these new stop conditions.
With the continued residential development in this area and as per the approved engineering plans for this development this change is necessary to maintain adequate traffic flow from all approaches at these intersections.
The Santa Fe County Public Works Department would like to thank motorists for their cooperation and use of caution when approaching these newly reconfigured intersections.
A Safe Roadway Campaign
In a joint effort to promote roadway safety, the Santa Fe County Public Works Department and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office would like to offer the following roadway safety reminders to residents of Santa Fe County, particularly in the Rancho Viejo La Entrada Subdivision north of Avenida del Sur.
· Share the road.
o Be on the lookout for bicyclists and pedestrians, as warmer temperatures bring an increase in the number of bicyclists and pedestrians.
o When passing a bicyclist or pedestrian, motorists must do so slowly and safely.
o A minimum distance of three feet between a vehicle and the bicyclist or pedestrian is recommended.
· Motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists all share responsibility for traffic safety.
o Bicyclists generally must obey all traffic laws when riding on roadways.
o Pedestrians must use sidewalks where provided.
o Pedestrians crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection must yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway.
· Slow down and obey the posted speed limit at all times.
o The speed limit on the road segment of Rancho Viejo Boulevard between Avenida del Sur and Via Punto Nuevo is 25mph.
o Speeding tickets are costly, and penalties for speeding can include fines, court appearances, and loss or suspension of driving privileges. Also, depending on your insurance policy, speeding tickets can raise your rates.
o Speeding gives you less time to react and increases the severity of an accident.
· Always wear your seat belt and make sure every passenger in your vehicle is properly restrained. Failure to do so:
o Puts unrestrained passengers at risk of serious injury; and
o Could result in fines.
· Cell phones distract drivers.
o Don’t text and drive.
o Use only hands-free devices to talk while driving.
· Always drive sober and drug-free.
Traffic enforcement operations will be in place a various times in the Rancho Viejo area, north of Avenida del Sur. The use of electronic equipment (message boards and driver feedback speed trailers) may be used to remind motorists of their responsibility to obey the posted speed limit and maintain a safe speed.
