El Camino Real Academy Library Transformation

Santa Fe, NM – El Camino Real Academy’s library grants are transforming their print collections and resources to engage more students in a greater variety of ways.

ECRA’s librarian, Mackie Fritzmeier worked with U.S. House Representative Ben Ray Lujan’s office to coordinate a gift of surplus books from the Library of Congress in Washington DC. It is a program that any nonprofit can apply to participate in, and a staffer from Rep. Lujan’s office visited the library to select and ship the books to ECRA at no cost to the school.

The New Mexico Library Foundation board of trustees announced that a grant application ECRA submitted on April 30, 2017 was funded at the level of $1000.00. The Development Grant’s principal goal is to build momentum for the multi-stage school library transformation by purchasing new print materials for middle school students.

The title of the project is The Wildcat Wonderspace: A Transformation of a School Library.

The grant will allow El Camino Real Academy to purchase dual-language STEM materials and support their efforts to update their middle school library print collection by encouraging better student engagement and learning.
