“Get Hooked” at 1st Annual Pecos Fishing Expo

The Santa Fe National Forest is proud to be a sponsor of the first annual Pecos Fishing Expo on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Monastery Lake near the Pecos Benedictine Monastery.

This family-friendly event will offer fun, food for purchase, and fishing with a focus on getting kids out into the great outdoors and jump-starting a passion for angling. In addition to onsite booths and exhibitors, the Fishing Expo will offer prizes for kids up to age 18. Admission is free, and no fishing license is required. This is an alcohol-free event.

In addition to the Forest Service, sponsors of the event include the Village of Pecos, Pecos Business Association, Pecos Sheriff’s Posse, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, Pecos National Historical Park, San Miguel County and Pecos Benedictine Monastery.

Sponsors hope that by helping kids learn to tie a knot or bait a hook, they are establishing the foundation for future generations to help steward our rivers, lakes and streams. The goal of the event is to have kids at the end of the day ask mom and dad when they get to go fishing again.
