Santa Fe Public School Graduates-District ACT Scores Released

Santa Fe, NM – ACT released test summary data for Santa Fe Public School (SFPS) graduates. The information SFPS received reflects the achievement of our graduates on the ACT over a five-year period.

The number of SFPS graduates taking the ACT Test has risen and fallen annually with 2017 showing an increase over 2013 to 387 graduates. According to Dr. Veronica C. Garcia, superintendent of Santa Fe Public Schools, “The District has the expectation that all of its graduates are prepared for college and career success. The Public Education Department highlighted our successful efforts at Santa Fe and Capital High Schools with a grade of B for college and career readiness for this last school year.

“This improvement is testament to the hard work of our educators. However, our students’ performance on the ACT shows that we have a significant challenge to graduate students at the benchmark levels which are the minimum scores set by ACT to earn a grade of B in credit-bearing college courses.” The following table shows the five-year trend of the District ACT-tested graduates:

Dr. Garcia stated, “While we are proud of our high schools “B”for college and career readiness, we must seriously consider our students’ performance on the ACT and other college entrance exams in order to create a complete picture of our graduates’ college preparedness. We will continue to promote high expectations for all students, at all schools, by using this data as one of our key performance indicators, which help measure our progress, on our strategic plan goals.”
