Santa Fe YouthWorks Verde Project

Santa Fe YouthWorks has Scheduled a Verde Project Tour Wednesday, November 1, 2-4pm

Mayor, City Councilors, County Commissioners, and Schools Board Members
are Expected to Attend

On Wednesday November 1, 2017 members of the Santa Fe media have been invited for a behind-the-scenes tour of Verde Community Project’s operations, partners and youth. During the tour, elected officials will join young people as they grow and prepare food, and to deliver and serve food to our neediest children. YouthWorks is using the program to address poverty and climate change in Santa Fe.

Currently, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a 5.9% unemployment rate for Santa Fe County. The rate for youth and young adults is much higher. The unemployment rate in Santa Fe County for youth ages 16 to 24 is 28.7% as compared to 16.9% nationally. Increasing youth and young adult employment in Santa Fe County is critical for community health and well-being.

The Verde Community Project will be creating 33 new jobs for young people in Santa Fe in six key areas: Culinary, Wild land Firefighting, Home weatherization, Media Arts, Compost Operations and Landscaping. The Verde Project is accomplishing all of this while feeding the city’s neediest children, weatherizing low-income family homes, and thinning forestland to prevent wildfires.
