Capital opens in the Al Armendariz tournament Thursday

The Capital High girl’s basketball team heads into the Al Armendariz tournament that it hosts with a 2-2 record after Monday night’s 68-40 setback to visiting Kirtland Central in non district play.
Junior Kyannah Cole was the lone Jaguar in double figures with 16 points, while junior teammate Miranda Cole scored eight. First-year head coach Darren Casados’ team trailed 20-10 after one quarter, but the halftime score increased to 40-21 and Kirtland Central (1-1) led 54-25 after three quarters.
The Broncos had lost their opener, 54-46, to Piedra Vista. They were led by 14 points from Candice Paterson.
Capital lost its season-opener, 52-30, to Pojoaque Valley, but then turned in back-to-back wins over Bernalillo (42-35) and Taos (59-54). The Jags open their tournament against Mesa Vista in a 5 p.m. scheduled start Thursday
