After St. Michael’s Athletic Director Tom Manning sent a text that the Lady Horsemen had lost 71-57 to visiting Pojoaque Valley Tuesday night, the website was checked to see how the teams did by quarters.

There it was, the final score that Manning had texted, and the score by quarters. Except that a further look showed a 2-0 forfeit, and that was on the websites of both schools. And upon looking up the night’s state-wide results, there it was again, this time saying that it was St. Michael’s over Pojoaque by forfeit.

Tough to write a story on a game that revealed two different final scores, but a text to Manning wasn’t returned, neither did an email.

So it was time to check this out with new Pojoaque Athletic Director, Kevin Garcia, and he just laughed and said that the Elkettes won, and that the score was 71-57, and he was mystified by the 2-0 forfeit that was listed.

“That’s strange, really strange,” he said. “But all I know is that we officially won and that I had the final score.”

With all that solved, the mystery remained as Pojoaque ran its overall record to 16-2 and dropped St. Michael’s to 8-12 in the District 2-4A game played at Perez-Shelley gymnasium.

The Elkettes led 15-14 after one quarter and 30-27 at halftime. But they upped the margin to 56-46 heading into the final quarter, and outscored the home team 15-11 after a tight first half.

“We have a good team,” said Garcia, “but so a lot of other 4A schools.”

The Clovis at Santa Fe High 2-6A contest wasn’t found. Clovis just took to the road, a 3-hour drive. No reason to call it in in these parts, so it was left up to the Demonettes, but a 49-31 loss at home spoiled that.

What transpired was the Wildcats winning on the road and advancing to 11-8 overall and 2-1 in district, while Santa Fe High fell to 8-12 overall and winless in three district starts, as well as losing for the fourth straight time.

Saturday, new Demonettes head coach Cindy Roybal takes her team to district foe Albuquerque Manzano, which lost to Albuquerque Eldorado by the identical final score of 49-31 Tuesday night.

In other girls games, Academy of Technology and The Classics took a 43-38 triumph over Monte del Sol in a non district contest, Desert Academy edged New Mexico Military Institute, 32-31 in non district, Penasco topped Espanola McCurdy,55-30, also in non district play, Robertson had no problem handing Mora a 50-21 whooping in non district, and Bernalillo turned in a 46-30 District 5-4A victory over East Mountain.

In 2-4A play, it was West Las Vegas over Taos, 41-32, Moriarty outscored Albuquerque Hope Christian, 42-28, in 5-4A, Los Lunas triumphed 43-38 over Albuquerque St. Pius X in 5-5A, West Mesa rolled over Albuquerque High, 74-37 in 4-6A, and Las Cruces over Mayfield, 34-24, in 4-6A,
And just to remain you, that was Pojoaque Valley 71, St. Michael’s 57.
