Santa Fe’s Workers Will See Wage Increase in March

Living Wage to increase to $11.40, a raise of 2.82%, effective March 1, 2018

Santa Fe, NM – Based on a 12-month total increase of 2.82% in the CPI for the Western Region for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers for 2017, Santa Fe workers will see the Living Wage increase to $11.40 an hour as of March 1. Living Wage for 2017 was $11.09 an hour. This is the highest increase since 2011.

The community of Santa Fe came together in 2007 and decided to adjust the Living Wage with the annual cost of living in order to help ensure that workers’ wages would keep pace with inflation. The term Living Wage refers to the minimum hourly wage necessary for a person to achieve a higher standard of living. According to the US Department of Labor, Federal minimum wage is at $7.25 since 2009.

All employers within the City of Santa Fe are required to pay all workers the Living Wage.

Last year, Mayor Javier M. Gonzales announced the increase saying, “Every year, we get to take a moment to celebrate a testament to one of our basic values: the idea that no one who works full time in our community should ever live in poverty. As the cost of living rises, we should not let the workers we count on fall through the cracks, and the Living Wage helps ensure that is the case.”
