By Tom Udall Press Office

This week,U.S. Senator Tom Udall will be in New Mexico to join Google officials to unveil Rolling Study Halls, a Google initiative to help students access Wi-Fi on school buses, in Santa Fe; host a Federal Rural Resource Roadshow in Los Lunas; and give remarks at the Next Generation Water Summit in Santa Fe.

Today,April 30 at 11:15 a.m., Udall will address the Federal Rural Resource Roadshow hosted by his office in Los Lunas at the Los Lunas Village Council Chambers. It is one of six Rural Resource Roadshows that Udall’s office is hosting around the state to bring community leaders together with federal and state agencies, nonprofits, and other organizations that work to support rural communities. The events are an opportunity for elected officials, their staff, and others in the community to hear directly from federal and state agencies and nonprofits that support economic development and infrastructure initiatives in their area, learn about grants that might be available to them, and how to apply.

Alsotodayat 2:15 p.m.,in Santa Fe at Milagro Middle School, Udall will join Google representatives and Santa Fe public school officials, including Superintendent Dr. Veronica Garcia, in announcing Google’s plans to bring Rolling Study Halls to Santa Fe – an initiative to help combat the homework gap by helping students with long commutes access Wi-Fi on school buses. With an increasing number of teachers assigning homework that requires an internet connection, completing assignments can be a real challenge for the nearly one-third of New Mexico kids who don’t have access to the internet at home. Udall has been working to expand high speed internet access to more rural and Tribal areas in New Mexico and has even called on the Federal Communications Commission toprovide Wi-Fi on school buses.

Tomorrow,Tuesday, May 1 at 8:15 a.m., at the Santa Fe Convention Center, Udall will give remarks at the Second Annual Next Generation Water Summit – a water conference to bring together community leaders, builders, and architects to discuss the best policy approaches for conserving water in New Mexico. The conference is hosted by the Green Builders Coalition, the Santa Fe Green Chamber of Commerce, the Santa Fe Area Homebuilders Association, Save Water Santa Fe, and the City of Santa Fe’s Water Conservation Office.
