“Get Hooked” at 2nd Annual Pecos Fishing Expo

By SFNF

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) is a sponsor of the second annual Pecos Fishing Expo on Saturday, June 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Monastery Lake near the Pecos Benedictine Monastery.

The family-friendly event offers fun, food for purchase, and fishing with a focus on getting kids out into the great outdoors. In addition to onsite booths and exhibitors, the Fishing Expo will offer prizes for kids under age 18. Admission is free, and no fishing license is required. This is an alcohol-free event.

In addition to the Forest Service, sponsors of the event include the Village of Pecos, Pecos Business Association, Pecos Sheriff’s Posse, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, Pecos National Historical Park, San Miguel County, Pecos Benedictine Monastery and many others.

Sponsors hope that by helping kids learn to tie a knot or bait a hook, they are establishing the foundation for future generations to help steward our rivers, lakes and streams. The goal of the event is to have kids at the end of the day ask when they get to go fishing again.

SFNF will implement a forest-wide closure order at 8:00 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, prohibiting public access to forest.  The event is except from the closure because Monastery Lake is managed by the State Department of Game and Fish.  For additional forest closure information please visit https://firerestrictions.us/nm/.
