SFCC announces ¡Viva! Free Fitness for Full-time Students

By SFCC

Santa Fe Community College announces the launch of ¡Viva! Free Fitness for Full-time Students – a pilot program for the fall semester. SFCC Interim President Cecilia Cervantes, Ph.D., said the fitness program is in response to an initiative proposed by students. Starting Aug. 20, full-time students registered for 12 credit hours or more will be able to access the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and all day Friday.

Participants will have access to the gymnasium, swimming pools, walking track, resistance training center and tennis courts.

“We know that physical fitness contributes to academic success, so I’m pleased to offer this pilot program to our students,” Cervantes said. “We encourage students to take advantage of ¡Viva!”

Full-time students can learn more about the fitness program by visiting the college’s student portal, MySFCC.

To be eligible for ¡Viva!, students must be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and sign a liability waiver. These waivers are available in the Fitness Education Center, where students can sign up and receive a temporary day pass for access to the facilities.

In order to access the facilities, students must provide a valid SFCC student identification card.

Students must be age 16 or older to participate. Students age 16 and 17 must have parental approval.

FEC facilities are not available when classes or special events are taking place.

The program runs through Dec. 7, 2018. For more information, contact the Welcome and Advising Center via email at wac@sfcc.edu or call 505-428-1270.
