“Coleman Barks is a pioneer and renowned scholar on Rumi, the great Sufi. In his elegant and exquisite way, Coleman has made Rumi as popular as Shakespeare to the world and continues to inspire us with Rumi’s ecstatic poetry.” –Deepak Chopra
Known for sold-out performances in Santa Fe and other US cities—most recently in Washington DC at the National Cathedral—The Rumi Concert returns to Santa Fe Friday, October 5th, 2018 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.
The ecstatic poetry of Rumi, the 13th century Sufi mystic and one of the most widely read poets in America, comes to life in a feast of poetry, music, dance, story and humor.
Five unique world-class artists join in collaboration for an inspirational evening performance: author of many books of Rumi’s poetry and acclaimed poet and translator , Coleman Barks; international Storydancer, Zuleikha; four-time Grammy Award-winners, world percussionist, Glen Velez and cellist ,Eugene Friesen; and musician of the African harp, kora, and vocalist, Zena Carlota.
COLEMAN BARKS has translated more than a dozen volumes of Rumi’s poetry, including The Illuminated Rumi (1997) and The Essential Rumi (1995) and is at the heart of this magical evening as the artists bring their expression to make a tapestry of the heart.
