Two of the youngest girl’s soccer teams in the area met up for the second time Monday afternoon, and again it was Academy of Technology and The Classics turning back Monte del Sol, 4-1, at Camino Real field.

ATC advanced to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in District 1-A/3A. Today it plays host to district leader Navajo Prep (7-6, 3-0) at Camino Real. Monte del Sol, which had won two of its last four outings and had improved since a poor start, dropped to 2-14 overall and winless in four district starts.

It was youth for the Phoenix, with 8th graders Sofia Barker and Sofia Mifsud scoring a goal each, and sophomores X. Estanada Perez and leading scorer Maggie Rittmeyer putting in the other goals. An assist went to freshman Kimberly Garcia, and Perez took five shots on goal.

Minding the goal for ATC was sophomore Madison Northup for the first 12 minutes, and sophomore Mara Wright the remaining 68. Wright made five saves and allowed the lone Dragon goal that tied the score at 1-1 after one half. The Phoenix went ahead with three second-half goals, taking 16 shots, 11 on the goal.

Monte del Sol is home at Municipal Recreation Complex versus Navajo Prep Friday afternoon.
