Visiting St. Michael’s swept past Santa Fe Prep and Santa Fe High lost a tough five-setter to visiting Albuquerque Sandia in volleyball play Tuesday night.
The Lady Horsemen remained in second place behind Robertson with the dominating 25-8, 25-13, 25-13 result. They are 15-2 overall and 6-1 in District 2-3A. The Griffins dropped to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in district.
Robertson has a win over St. Michael’s and is 7-0 on top the district and 12-5 overall. The Cardinals breezed past visiting Santa Fe Indian School, 25-15, 25-17, 25-9. The Braves are now 13-4 overall and 4-3 in district, where they hold down third place.
In 5-5A, the Demonettes gave first place Sandia a hard time after being swept the previous time by the Matadors, This time, the scores were 23-25, 14-25, 25-20, 25-9, and 15-4. Santa Fe (10-6, 5-3) was up two sets to one, but Sandia dominated the last two sets, outscoring the Demonettes, 40-13.
In 2-4A, first place Pojoaque Valley won handily, 25-11, 25-10, 25-13, over visiting Taos. The soaring Elkettes advanced to 16-2 overall and 5-1 in district while the Tigers are now 7-10 overall and winless in five district matches.
Visiting Espanola McCurdy turned back Monte del Sol, 23-25, 25-23, 25-10 and 25-18, with three of the sets being tight enough for either team to come away with wins, but the Dragons had 14 missed serves and a number of missed hitting opportunities in falling to 4-12 overall and 2-2 in District 2-2A. McCurdy became 2-1 in district and 7-10 overall.
