The BuRRT Transfer Station will not be Accepting Trash on November 1-4, 2018 due to Floor Repairs

By SFSWMA

The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency (Agency) will not accept trash at the BuRRT transfer station for four days while repairs are made to the facility’s concrete floor. The closure will begin Thursday, November 1, 2018 through Sunday, November 4, 2018. Limited trash service will resume on Monday, November 5, 2018 with full service returning Monday, November 12, 2018.
City and County collections of solid waste and recyclables will not be affected.
The Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station (BuRRT) will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. during the closure and will accept the following items: drop-off recyclables, green waste, scrap tires, household hazardous waste, appliances and electronics.
Residential and commercial customers wishing to dispose of their trash during the closure may use the Caja del Rio Landfill located at 149 Wildlife Way from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday only. The Landfill is closed on Sunday. Landfill fees will apply.
The transfer station opened in 1998. With over 20 years of operation, the floor has almost completely worn down near the main loading hopper thereby requiring repair. On June 28, the Agency’s governing board awarded a $537,931 construction contract to Anissa Construction of Albuquerque for the transfer station floor rehabilitation and general structural repairs. The contractor along with its subcontractor, American Restore, will use specialized ultrahigh strength concrete products to resurface a 40 ft x 60 ft section of the floor and reinforce one of the loading hoppers. The contractor will also repair concrete columns and beams in the tunnel area of the transfer station and weld new metal plates over existing metal plates for wear protection. The specialized concrete products are specifically designed to take the wear and tear of a transfer

station, with a 28-day compressive strength exceeding 15,000 psi. In comparison, general use concrete typically provides compressive strength of 3,000 to 4,000 psi at 28 days.

The Agency operates BuRRT and the Caja del Rio Landfill, which provide a safe and environmentally responsible way for residents and businesses to dispose of their waste and recyclables.
