Kudos to Monte del Sol sophomore Moises Cerda for gaining first-team honors on the soccer All-State 1A-3A team.

While the area girls placed three on first team, forward/midfielder Cerda is the only boy to do so. He was the spark for the Dragons making their way to the state semifinals in his second season on the team. This 3-2 loss to Robertson ended the team’s 11-match winning streak, and it was the versatile Cerda who turned in one goal.

“He deserved all of this,” said head coach Friedtich Rothdack, “He was on a team without a senior and played like one. He never stopped playing, and should be even better the next two years, but he was outstanding this time.”

Cerda also played one match in goal. He went all 80 minutes, made eight saves out of 11 shots, and allowed three goals.

Monte del Sol, with seven juniors, six sophomores, four freshmen and two 8th graders, went 14-4-1 and entered state as a No. 1 seed.

The girls who were also selected for first team, were Santa Fe Prep senior forward Lynn Robey, senior teammate, midfielder Blake Trevisan, and Michael’s senior Devin Romero, who played defender.

The Griffins gained six girls on All-State, the Lady Horsemen five, Academy of Technology and The Classics three, and Monte del Sol two.

On the second team were ATC sophomore midfielder Maggie Rittmeyer, St. Michael’s leading scorer, senior Claire Lee, a forward, Prep senior defender Abitgale Stranahan, Griffins senior midfielder Taylor Lincoln, and sophomore forward Hayden Colfax, one of the finest athletes in the state.

Included on the Honorable Mention list were sophomore defender Chloe Lujan of ATC, Monte del Sol senior forward Adeline Chacon, Dragons’ 8th grade forward Jennifer Madrigal, and St. Michael’s 8th grade goalkeeper Milena Keene.

As for the boys’ second team, Monte del Sol landed junior midfielder Pedro Chavez, senior defender Hugo Gutierrez of Tierra Encantada, and Horsemen junior midfielder Wesley Sage Graham, and senior forward Justice Johnson.

On the Honorable Mention list, Desert Academy placed junior defender Milan Brkic, freshmanmidfielder Cyrus Curtis, senior forward Cole Sullivan, and 8th grader Jonathan Kaare-Rasmussen, probably the team’s best player, and he starts as a defender.

Also listed on HM were goalies Julio Franco of Tierra Encantada, junior Noel Pruntes of Monte del Sol, and senior Isaiah Vigil of St. Michael’s.Franco is also a junior.

The Dragons put four boys on the team, Tierra Encantada, St. Michael’s and Desert Academy three each.
