PNM sending crews for power restoration efforts in California

By PNM

PNM has been asked by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) to head out to California to assist in efforts to restore power to over 18,000 customers after a historically devastating fire ravaged parts of the state. PNM will be providing three crews; two to work on the distribution lines and one crew to help with the transmission lines in the affected areas.

Approximately 17 PNM employees, including linemen and support staff, will leave over the next week and half to drive to California. The two distribution crews will leave from the PNM Southern Operations offices on the morning of Friday, Nov. 23, and the transmission crew will leave from the Albuquerque Electric Service Center the morning of Friday, Nov. 30. Crews plan to start work immediately after arriving on scene.

“This is something that happens throughout the community of line work,” said Zach Johnson, operations manager for the Metro and Northern New Mexico line departments. “When fires or weather cause devastation like what we are seeing in California, utilities from around the country will gather and do what they can to assist in getting the power on safely and quickly to the customers in that area. We are all family, and families help each other.”

The crews anticipate staying in California for two to three weeks, but will reassess and stay if additional help is requested.
