Gov. Lujan Grisham to open Monday’s Clean Energy Conferenced

By Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham will give opening remarks at Monday’s Clean Energy Conference, hosted by an array of community organizations and businesses uniting to empower New Mexicans to advocate for climate solutions at the New Mexico Legislature.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend both Monday’s Clean Energy Conference and Tuesday’s Clean Energy Day at the Roundhouse.

Gov. Lujan Grisham will give opening remarks at 3 p.m. Monday for the Clean Energy Conference, followed by a “How To Be an Effective Grassroots Lobbyist” workshop.

The Clean Energy Conference also features briefings on key clean-energy and energy-efficiency legislation, a dinner and speakers Laura Paskus, journalist with New Mexico Political Report, and Destiny Watford, who as a high-school student spearheaded a successful campaign to stop a trash-burning incinerator in her Baltimore neighborhood. Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard has also just been added to the oil and gas panel as part of the conference legislative briefing.

Clean Energy Day at the Legislature will also offer trainings by volunteers and staff of local organizations on how New Mexicans can be effective advocates with their elected officials. There will also be a press conference and a Climate Alarm action and ribbon drop in the Roundhouse Rotunda at noon, to signify the 12 years the IPCC report said are left to safeguard our climate.

To register for the conference or Clean Energy Day, go to riograndesierraclub.org. Conference tickets are $15.
