Early College Opportunities High School to Host First Annual Go Kart Challenge Time Trials

By SFPS

the Early College Opportunities High School (ECO) will host the first annual Go Kart Challenge Time Trials. This is the culmination of a two-week-long STEM summer camp for middle school students. During the camp, students in teams of five learned the science of racing through various project-based lessons and then applied that knowledge through the engineering process to build go karts.

The student teams, which consist of middle school students from across the District, will race their karts in a variety of time trial races. Teams will earn points for their performance on the track as well as in the classroom during the summer camp. An overall champion will be honored at the time trials.

Superintendent Dr. Veronica C. Garcia said, ”The Early College Opportunities High School leverages community partnerships and real-world experiences to provide our students with a unique, academically rigorous high school experience. During this camp, the middle school students get to experience what it is like to learn in this unique way at ECO. They are learning high-level scientific concepts, teamwork, and how to overcome adversity while competing against the other teams for the overall championship. I wish the racers luck!”

Sponsors include Santa Fe Motor Sports, Autozone and Keller Williams Realty. Parents and the community are invited to the time trials, which will take place in the upper parking lot behind the Santa Fe High School football stadium.
