Forest Road 376 Closed at Mile Marker 5.3 for Public Safety

By SFNF

The Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has closed Forest Road (FR) 376 to through traffic due to a blocked culvert at mile marker 5.3, approximately 4 miles north of the Gilman Tunnels and 3 miles south of Porters Landing.

The culvert is slated for replacement, but recent monsoonal weather patterns and the subsequent runoff and debris have made it an immediate public safety issue. SFNF personnel have placed temporary barricades on both sides of the blocked area, and visitors are advised to avoid using FR 376.

The work to replace the culvert is expected to begin soon, which will require a longer-term closure of FR 376.  “We regret the inconvenience this may cause, but our first priority is always public safety,” Jemez District Ranger Brian Riley said. Before contractors begin the major work on the culvert, the district will place signage at the north and south entrances to FR 376 to let the public know that the road is closed.
