Summer Fun at State Parks

Santa Fe, NM – Summer is in full-swing and State Parks invites families to get outdoors and enjoy refreshing water sports and unique educational programs held throughout beautiful New Mexico. Camp with us or bring a picnic for a fun day outing. For those looking for summer fun, here are just a few state park offerings for the month of August.

August 10, 2019 (7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.)

Summer Wings and BioBlitz at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, Albuquerque: Join us in celebrating our winged friends at the annual Summer Wings Festival and BioBlitz! During Summer Wings, local experts provide guided walks as guests document as many species as possible. There will be a variety of programs as well as live birds with Wildlife Rescue, Bird ID and education, live bees with the NM Beekeepers Organization, Bosque Bits table, Kids’ Make & Take Crafts and a raffle by the Friends of the Rio Grande NatureCenter.

 

August 10, 2019 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

Down and Dirty Mountain Bike Race, Sugarite Canyon State Park, Raton: Go for the glory in this tough, 15-mile mountain bike event at Sugarite Canyon State Park. This adventure race will include several trail challenges in the scenic mountains of northern New Mexico. A minimum number of participants are required to prevent cancellation, so sign up early! August 10, 2019 (6 p.m. – 8 p.m.)

Music in the Mountains at Hyde Memorial State Park, Santa Fe: Come party on the patio of the Historic Lodge at Hyde Memorial State Park to the sounds and rhythm of “The Boom Roots Collective.” Bring your favorite beverage and dancing shoes! Cost is only $10 per carload for this family-friendly event.

 

August 24, 2019 (6 p.m. – 8 p.m.)

Leasburg Dam Music & the Stars, Radium Springs: Join us for two hours of music. “The Deming Fusiliers” (Dennis Daily/ Rus Bradburd) will be followed by an hour of telescope observation of night sky objects. Volunteers from the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces will be on hand to assist visitors. The event is free with paid Day Use or Camping permit.
