Santa Fe High falls twice to Los Alamos in less than a week of boy’s soccer non district matches, the latest Thursday’s 2-0 setback at home, while the Capital girls turned back defending state 3A volleyball champion St. Michael’s, 3-1.

Kudos to the Los Alamos boy’s soccer team.

 

At the Albuquerque Academy Invitational last week, the Hilltoppers edged Santa Fe High, 3-2, than they accepted the challenge from the Demons for the Thursday rematch at Ivan Head Stadium, and prevailed again, this time 2-0.

 

They scored one goal in the first half and tacked on the insurance goal in the second half.

 

Demons head coach Chris Eadie said his team had six or seven scoring opportunities, and added that he had some good set pieces, but Los Alamos turned to playing kick ball to preserve the lead.

 

Santa Fe High is home to Goddard Saturday and on the same day, its Los Alamos hosting Roswell.

 

In girl’s soccer, Los Alamos was again victorious in nipping Santa Fe Prep, 2-1, at Sullivan Field. The Demonettes took the early lead, but the Hilltoppers responded to tie things on a goal Marie Lee. Then it was Alyssa Parker coming up with the winning goal via an assist from Irene Abrafalter.

 

Santa Fe High dropped to 5-4-1 and begins District 5-5A play at Albuquerque High Wednesday. Los Alamos stands at 4-4-1 and heads for Rio Rancho to take on Cleveland Saturday.

 

In Volleyball, Capital surprised defending state 3A champion St. Michael’s at home, 3-1, in non district play to move to 4-2. The Jaguars dropped the first set, 25-23, but bounced back to win the next three on scores of 25-19, 24-15, and 25-23, and accept for set number 3, the rest were all close, hard-played sets.

 

Capital junior middle hitter Jeraldine De los Santos, came away with eight kills. The Jags are at Los Alamos Tuesday, and the Lady Horsemen (7-3) are home to Santa Fe High the same night.Capital did a good job of containing 6-foot-1 All-State junior middle hitter Lily Barker.

 

At Pojoaque Valley’s Ben Lujan gymnasium, the Elkettes shut down Bernalillo, 3-0, with convincing sets of 25-9, 25-3, and 25-12, to up their record to 7-2 after this non district victory.

 

Pojoaque’s Adrianna Rodriguez showed the way at the service line by winning all of her 20 serves that included four aces, the Tournament of Champions winners also received 18 digs from Mikayla Padilla, and six kills from Alicia Quintana, and Ayanna Aguirre added eight assists.

 

Next stop for the Elkettes is a Tuesday visit to Albuquerque Hope Christian, who they swept in the Tournament of Champions final at Santa Fe High.
