BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF SANTA FE/DEL NORTE TEEN NAMED 2020 “YOUTH OF THE YEAR”

By boys and girls club

Andres Tiede, a member of the Boys & Girls Club for over ten years, was named 2020 “Youth of the Year” recently at a banquet held at Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino.
Since 1947, “Youth of the Year” has been the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club teens. Club members who earn the Youth of the Year title embody the values of leadership service, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyles. They exemplify the critical impact that Boys & Girls Clubs have on the lives of young people.
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and the Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles he or she has overcome.
Andres embodies what it means to be a “Youth of the Year”. He is a young man who deeply cares about his community as well as his education, health, and leadership. He demonstrates this by achieving a 4.06 grade point average and a healthy lifestyle. Andres has incorporated his healthy lifestyle into our Cub culture by creating his own program called, “Work Out Wednesdays”. Through this program he teaches his peers and younger Club members the importance of exercising and eating healthy. He shows his leadership by being the Club’s Keystone President, a role he was nominated for by his peers, and is their leader in planning community service learning projects and Teen Night events.

In his essay, Andres wrote “I am grateful for the opportunities I have had at the Boys and Girls Club. I learned to be confident, strong, responsible and respectful, to demonstrate good character with poise and integrity, to be independent and tenacious, and to be a great LEADER”.
Roman Abeyta, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Fe/Del Norte said, “We are very proud of Andres. He exemplifies everything we strive to teach our Club members. He will do well to represent us when he competes for Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year at the State of New Mexico competition.”
