RV Wastewater Treatment System is Now Open at Storrie Lake State Park

By EMNRD

Las Vegas, NM – The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD), State Parks Division announces that the recreational vehicle (RV) wastewater treatment system at Storrie Lake State Park in Las Vegas is now operable and open for business. Providing a functional wastewater treatment system to park goers is part of the Next Generation of Adventure campaign to enhance the visitor experience through upgraded facilities, improved access, and expanded partnerships. The State Parks Division is pleased to again provide this much needed service to visitors.
The RV dump station, as it is commonly referred to in the camping world, is available to empty gray and black water holding tanks. The new, state-of-the-art system can handle 1500 gallons of waste per day and replaces the previous system which was no longer operable. The total cost of the project was $378,000 which received 50-percent funding from the National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund and 50-percent funding from a legislative capital appropriation for the State Parks Division.
“This great new infrastructure is aligned with our mission of protecting our natural resources, and provides our visitors a proper, sanitary way to dispose of waste. We appreciate the input, support and patience from our park visitors, our many partners, and the communities of Las Vegas and San Miguel County, as we worked together to make this improvement at Storrie Lake State Park,” stated Christy Tafoya, Director of State Parks. “The Next Generation of Adventure campaign focuses on making the state parks experience better for everyone. This is another great example of how EMNRD is accomplishing our mission today while laying the groundwork for a modern park system in the future.”
