Santa Fe Fiesta suspends public events

By Santa Fe Fiesta

SANTA FE – As part of the state’s efforts to limit public gatherings in response to the COVID-19 virus, Santa Fe Fiesta, Inc. is suspending planned public events through April 30, 2020, for the 308th Fiesta de Santa Fe.
“We support and will honor the public health order issued today by the New Mexico Department of Health and are following Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s recommendations to halt public gatherings until this pandemic is resolved,” said Aaron Garcia, President of Santa Fe Fiesta, Inc.
“We regret this will interrupt previously planned events in the next 60 days, and possibly through the summer, but the public’s health is a priority,” said Garcia.
“The fate of future fiesta events will be determined in consultation with city, state and federal officials and our business partners. All of our plans will be focused on the health and welfare of all who attend Fiesta,” said Garcia.
The Centers for Disease Control says the virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person when an infected person coughs or sneezes, producing respiratory droplets that can reach others who are within about 6 feet.
In addition to canceling all large public events and avoiding large public gatherings whenever possible, New Mexico health officials continue to urge New Mexicans to:
• Avoid all non-essential travel to affected out-of-state areas; and exercise extreme caution with all out-of-state travel.
• Remain home (“self-isolate”) if you are sick.
• Call the Department of Health at 1-855-600-3453 if you are exhibiting any of the symptoms of
COVID-19.
