Santuario de Chimayo Pilgrimage Postponed Due to Coronavirus

By SF County

Santa Fe County would like to remind residents, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and recent Public Health Orders, the Archdiocese of Santa Fe has postponed the official Santuario de Chimayo Pilgrimage. All gatherings of groups larger than five people are currently prohibited in the State of New Mexico, therefore the pilgrimage will be canceled at this time. In an attempt to comply with social distancing and stay-at-home instructions issued by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, the County is also discouraging independent walks to Santuario during Holy Week.

With the cancellation of the pilgrimage, please keep in mind:

  • There will not be portable restroom facilities along the route.
  • The Fire Station in Chimayo will not be staffed as usual during this event.
  • There will not be stand-by ambulance service in Chimayo.

During this difficult time, Santa Fe County is asking the public to be safe and help stop the spread of COVID-19 by staying home this year, rather than walking in the pilgrimage to Chimayo.
