A Message From Alan Webber: Getting and giving help

By Mayor Alan Webber

There’s no sugar-coating the pain caused by this pandemic and the harsh impact the economic aftershock has had on each of us, our families, front-line workers, those who work on job-sites, and so many of the small mom and pop businesses that are the backbone of our economy. It may take years to recover. But we will recover and we will recover together.

As the City and State move toward a safe, gradual, and successful reopening, I want to share a number of resources that may be helpful to all of us as we work our way through these twin crises, standing as one community.

First – I was honored to join Congressman Ben Ray Lujan and Congresswoman Deb Haaland for #CongressFromMyCasa. We all agreed on the importance of supporting local, state, and Tribal governments during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s a link to the conversation.  They are both terrific leaders for New Mexico and the nation. I hope you watch our conversation and find it informative.

Second – The Governor is encouraging everyone who is working to get tested for COVID-19. You do not have to be symptomatic to get tested. There is no cost for being tested for COVID-19, whether you have insurance or not. Find testing sites here.

Third – COVID-19 is a devastating blow to our families, our community, and our city. Every one of us knows someone who has been affected by the coronavirus. You may have been affected yourself. If you are in need of food, housing, transportation, or other help, the Santa Fe County CONNECT Fund is available to help.

This fund was set up to help Santa Feans hit the hardest to help cope financially during this devastating time. Now more than ever, we need one another. If you need help – apply to the CONNECT fund. If you’re in a position to help – please consider a contribution TO the CONNECT fund.  You can send checks made out to CONNECT Youth and Family Services Division and mail to:

     CONNECT FUND
City Hall
c/o Youth and Family Services Division
PO Box 909
     Santa Fe NM, 87504

I will continue to update our whole community about what’s happening now — and what we can expect moving forward. Across Santa Fe, people are joining together, sharing ideas, and lifting spirits to create a safe and secure pathway back to economic prosperity for Santa Fe’s families and our city.
