Updated Trash and Recycling Services Due to COVID-19

By SFSWMA

Due to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, both the Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency (SFSWMA) and the City of Santa Fe Environmental Services Division (ESD) have made updates to services.
Starting Monday, May 11th, the Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station (BuRRT) and Caja del Rio Landfill will resume regular operating hours, as follows.
• BuRRT – 8:00 am to 4:45 pm, seven days a week
• Caja del Rio Landfill – 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday
BuRRT will resume accepting trash, construction debris, green waste, scrap tires, electronic waste, and household hazardous waste such as paint, motor oil and chemicals from all customers. BuRRT also is reopening its drop-off center for recyclable materials, including glass bottles.
The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency will enforce the following measures to ensure the health and safety of the customers and Agency employees:
• All customers must wear facemasks or suitable face-coverings
• Limit two people per vehicle
• Limit one load per day for residents
• Maintain at least six feet of distance between each person
• Limit unloading inside the transfer station to eight vehicles at a time
• Limit five customers at a time at the recycling drop-off center
• Employees will limit hand-to-hand and other close interactions with customers
• Customers should use credit or debit cards for payment
Customers should be patient and expect delays; however, the goal is to provide services in a safe and manageable way. Customers who are sick or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms should not visit the facilities to protect the integrity of waste collection and processing operations for residents and businesses within the City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe County limits.
These changes come in conjunction with the City of Santa Fe Environmental Services Division re- establishing limited residential bulky waste collection service. The City will accept “no-touch” household bulky items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances that can be lifted by a grapple truck. A limit of four items per customer will be in place. No green waste will be included at this time, but ESD will continue

to evaluate its’ ability to provide services and adjust as needed. City of Santa Fe residential customers can call ESD at (505) 955-2200 to schedule a collection.
ESD cannot reopen recycling drop-off sites within the City at this time due to both COVID-19 exposure issues and staffing levels, but is supporting BuRRT to help ensure its recycling drop-off can safely reopen to give residents an option for recycling glass bottles.
The Agency and ESD ask that you please help contain the spread of COVID-19 by delay recycling drop-off and the disposal of non-essential materials, if possible. Non-essential materials include items that can be held without causing a health or sanitation problem. The Agency and ESD will continue to monitor changes associated with the COVID-19 situation and will make operational changes as necessary to protect both customers and employees. Adherence to the established measures and the patience of customers is key to maintaining functional facilities and programs.
