CHRISTUS St. Vincent Set to Receive 5-Star Hospital Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services

By CHRISTUS St. Vincent

CHRISTUS St. Vincent will receive a 5-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – the highest quality rating awarded by the agency and the first in the hospital’s history. Much has led to this monumental achievement.

A deep sense of community and compassion for those in need has driven generations of CHRISTUS St. Vincent clinicians to devote their lives to caring for the people of northern New Mexico. From the very young to the very old, CHRISTUS St. Vincent has brought healing and hope to the community’s ill and injured for nearly 155 years.
In recent years, a focus on associate engagement and development has sparked a tremendous cultural shift at CHRISTUS St. Vincent, putting the power to transform quality of care into the hands of those on the front lines.

Today, CHRISTUS St. Vincent is recognized as one of New Mexico’s best places to work and receive care. Associates report high levels of satisfaction regarding work-life balance, compensation, benefits, leadership involvement, communication and opportunities for growth. Among the 60-plus hospitals of the CHRISTUS Health System, CHRISTUS St. Vincent has the highest level of associate engagement. CHRISTUS St. Vincent associates have made patient safety their number one priority. Daily safety huddles, annual patient safety fairs, hourly patient rounding, anonymous associate safety surveys and near-miss reporting have significantly reduced the risk of error and injury and represent just a few ways patient safety has been woven into the fabric of the hospital’s daily operations.

Through CHRISTUS St. Vincent’s Clinician Directed Performance Improvement Program, nurses and physicians have developed evidence-based protocols for slashing infection rates, improving the safety of medication administration, reducing length of stay for babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome and much more.

As part of CHRISTUS St. Vincent’s “Journey to Always”, associates and clinicians work to improve the patient experience at every point of contact. It’s a promise to each patient that they’ll always be treated with the utmost dignity and respect and their needs and expectations will always be addressed to the best of the hospital’s ability.

That promise extends to working with the global authority in medicine to find the answers they need. Through CHRISTUS St. Vincent’s membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Network, CHRISTUS St. Vincent patients are able to access world-leading medical expertise at no additional cost and while staying close to home. To date, more than 160 CHRISTUS St. Vincent patients have received a second opinion from a Mayo Clinic specialist through their trusted local doctor.

CHRISTUS St. Vincent is proud to serve the dynamic and diverse northern New Mexico community, and is thankful for the community leaders, officials, partners and friends who make the work of the hospital and its outpatient clinics possible.
