In response to COVID-19, the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) moved to a no-contact process to sell personal-use fuelwood permits over the phone and deliver them by postal mail. Since June 1, customers have had to call one of the SFNF offices to purchase a fuelwood permit.
Starting today, customers can submit a request to purchase a fuelwood permit online through the Santa Fe National Forest website and receive a call-back from a customer service representative to complete the transaction.
The online request requires the customer’s email, full name and phone number. Do not include your credit card information. Please tell us the name of the district where you expect to collect fuelwood. If you want to purchase a permit for green wood on Rowe Mesa, please note that as well.
When a SFNF customer service representative calls, customers should be prepared to provide:
· Full name and proof of identification, i.e., state-issued driver’s license number
· Mailing address
· Vehicle information, including make, model and license plate number
· Valid credit card number
In 2020, the $20 permit is good for up to 10 cords, double the previous limit of five cords. Dead-and-down permits, which expire on Dec. 31, 2020, are valid on the entire forest, except in designated wilderness areas. Fuelwood maps are posted on the SFNF website.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the SFNF continues to assess the best way to provide services to our communities. Be safe and plan ahead to reduce unnecessary exposure and impacts on emergency personnel. Follow all federal guidelines and state public health orders, including social distancing and limits on groups size, when collecting fuelwood.
