Alto Lake: Jud Soulsby, of Las Cruces, caught a 20-inch rainbow trout using a bead head nymph fly Sept. 16.

Bluewater Lake: Christopher Eaton, of Albuquerque, caught and released a 40-inch tiger muskie using a soft plastic lure Sept. 20. Anthony Ortiz, age 13, of Rio Rancho, caught and released a 36-inch tiger muskie using a Rapala jerk bait Sept. 18. Elijah Trujillo, of Los Lunas, caught a 38-inch, 16-pound tiger muskie using a water dog Sept. 19.

Charette Lakes: Jesus D. Romero, age 19, of Las Vegas, caught a 15.5-inch rainbow trout using Fireballs Sept. 20.

Hopewell Lake: Arleen Anaya, of Albuquerque, caught a 17-inch rainbow trout using peach PowerBait Sept. 16.

Jal Lake: Taryn and Tresley Smith, of Eunice, each caught 3- and 4-pound catfish using homemade dough bait Sept. 6.

McGaffey Lake: Joshua Platero, of Gallup, caught a 15-inch, 3-pound rainbow trout using PowerBait Sept.17.

Pecos River: Dave Mansure, of Santa Fe, caught an 18-inch rainbow trout near the confluence of the Mora River using pink PowerBait eggs Sept. 17. Jerome Buenviaje, of Santa Fe, caught a 17-inch rainbow trout near the Dalton Canyon area using a Panther Martin spinner Sept. 17.

Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Charette Lakes: Fishing for trout was good using worms, Fireballs, nymph flies in the mornings and dry flies in the evenings.

Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron Monday morning was 7.08 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using dry fly dropper setups with zebra midges and tricos. The water level was low.

Clayton Lake: Fishing for catfish was fair to good using chicken liver.

Conchas Lake: Fishing for bass was good using green pumpkin plastic tubes and white buzz baits.

Costilla Creek: Stream flow near Costilla Monday morning was 3.46 cfs.

Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing for perch was good using worms. Fishing for rainbow trout was fair to good using peach PowerBait.

Eagle Rock Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Hopewell Lake: Fishing for trout was good using peach PowerBait.

Lake Maloya: Fishing for trout was fair to good using silver spinners tipped with PowerBait.

Los Pinos River: Fishing for trout was good using Woolly Buggers and bead head nymphs.

Maxwell Lake 13: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Morphy Lake: The lake is closed for a renovation project on the dam and no firm opening date has been set.

Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos Monday morning was 20.5 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using pink PowerBait eggs, salmon eggs, Panther Martin spinners and bead head nymph flies.

Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery Monday morning was 34.0 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using dry fly dropper rigs with small nymphs like zebra midges and RS2s.

Rio Grande: Stream flow at the Taos Junction Bridge Monday morning was 163 cfs. Fishing for trout was good near Taos using dry fly dropper setups and nymph rigs with flies such as Poundmiesters, mayflies and caddis nymphs.

Rio Hondo: Stream flow Monday morning near Valdez was 10.8 cfs.

Rio Mora: Stream flow Monday morning was 3.51 cfs.

Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco Monday morning was 3.82 cfs.

Santa Cruz Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Storrie Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Ute Lake: Fishing for white bass was good with vertical jigging blade baits and slabs in 20 to 30-feet of water. Fishing for large and smallmouth bass was fair to good using topwater baits early in the day and Senkos, Hit Worms and drop shot Berkley Flat Nose Minnows later in the day. Fishing for walleye was fair to good jigging blade baits and live minnows in 20 to 25-feet of water. Fishing for catfish was fair using punch bait.

Northwest Fishing Report

Abiquiu Lake: Fishing for bass was slow to fair using Ned Rigs. Fishing for walleye was fair using jigging spoons and bottom bouncers tipped with nightcrawlers. Due to low water levels, anglers are advised to use four-wheel-drive vehicles to launch boats and watch for obstructions on the water.

Animas River: Water flow below Aztec Monday morning was 45.4 cfs.

Albuquerque Area Drains: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Bluewater Lake: Fishing for tiger muskie was good using spinnerbaits, Rapala lures, soft plastic lures and water dogs.

Brazos River: Fishing for trout was good using gold Panther Martin spinners.

Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 612 cfs and 353 cfs, respectively. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was fair to good using nightcrawlers. Fishing for trout below Abiquiu Lake was fair using bead head nymphs.

Cochiti Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Fenton Lake: Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs, PowerBait and worms. Hours of operations are currently Friday through Monday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours are subject to change, so please check with New Mexico State Parks before you go.

Heron Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near the town of Jemez Monday morning was 5.62 cfs.

Laguna del Campo: Fishing for trout was good using garlic PowerBait and chartreuse PowerBait.

Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

McGaffey Lake: Fishing for trout was fair using PowerBait.

Navajo Lake: Fishing for bass was good using a Ned Rig with a Sukoshi Bug, shad crankbaits and drop shot rigs. Fishing for kokanee salmon was slow.

San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

San Juan River: Stream flow Monday morning was 706 cfs. Fishing for trout in the quality waters was good using size 24 black, grey and olive midge pattern flies. Fishing in the bait waters was good using PowerBait.

Tips and Tricks

Rome and Arleen Anaya’s Fried Trout Nugget Recipe

1. Fillet trout into 1-1.5-inch-wide strips.
2. In a mixing bowl large enough to place fish in, mix salt and pepper with cornmeal. Make enough to coat all of the fish you plan to cook.
3. In a mixing bowl, stir a few raw eggs.
4. Dip the trout nuggets in the egg first and then into the mixed cornmeal.
5. Pan fry with regular cooking oil until nuggets turn golden brown.
6. Serve with lemon.

* For added flavor, make a homemade dip consisting of 1/4 mustard and 3/4 mayonnaise with a splash of lemon juice.
