SFNF Issues Closure Order for Segment of Forest Road 10

By SFNF

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) today issued a closure order for a 4-mile segment of Forest Road (FR) 10 to protect public health and safety while crews continue work to replace a total of 24 culverts and resurface the road.

The closure is a partial closure to allow some traffic through the affected area while construction is underway. The order is effective today, Oct. 14, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continues Oct. 15-16, Oct. 19-22 and Oct. 26-29 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The road will be passable from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each night that the closure order is in effect. The closure order could be rescinded earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule.

The restricted area on the north end of FR 10 begins at the intersection of FR 270 and FR 10 and extends north approximately 4 miles to the gate at the boundary with the Sierra Los Pinos subdivision.

Federal, state and local officers, members of an organized rescue team or firefighting force, and any others authorized by Forest Service permit are exempt from the closure order.

Signs are posted to notify the public that this segment of FR 10 is closed to public entry. Violation of the closure order is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, imprisonment of not more than six months, or both.

The closure order and map are available on the SFNF website. All current closure orders are posted on the Alerts and Notices page of the website.
