COLLEGE FOOTBALL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

By Arnie Leshin
Odds can be surprising, especially in the 10 college conference football championships to be played Friday and Saturday, and these are just the opening odds.
In the Atlantic Coast Conference, where 2nd-ranked Notre Dame turned back visiting, top-ranked Clemson, it’s now the Tigers, with the return of All-America quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who missed that game, favored by 10 and-a-half points over the Fighting Irish, one of eight remaining undefeated teams.
The Southeast Conference, where it if figured to be a tough test for No. 1, unbeaten Alabama against 6th-ranked Florida, now has the Crimson Tide a 17-point pick following the Gators’ loss to Louisiana State on a late field goal.
In the Big 10, undefeated, 4th-ranked Ohio State is favored by 20 and-a-half points over 14th-ranked Northwestern, which slipped past Wisconsin for the title berth.
In the Big 12, despite 9th-ranked Iowa State’s early win over visiting No. 8 Oklahoma, both have won six in a row, but the Sooners open as a 6-point pick.
In the PAC12, Washington is out due to COPID-19 issues, and it’s now unranked Oregon facing No.16, unbeaten  Southern California, and the Trojans, surprisingly, are only favored by three points.
In the MAC, undefeated Buffalo goes against Ball State, and is favored by 11 and-a-half points.
In Conference USA, previously unbeaten Marshall is a 6-point pick over Alabama Birmingham (UAB).
In the American Atlantic Conference (ACC), it’s undefeated, 8th-ranked Cincinnati versus Tulsa and is a 15-point choice.

And in the Sun Belt, what figures to be a tight tussle, has unbeaten, 11th-ranked Coastal Carolina home to 23rd-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette in a rematch of an earlier win on the road by Costal Carolina, with the Chantleers favored by four points.

But it’s puzzling to find that USC is only favored by 3 over Oregon, which is 3-2 but given a shot at an upset here. Meanwhile, Washington finishes at 4-1
