SFNF Fuelwood Permits Expire on Dec. 31

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) reminds all fuelwood cutters that tags and permits purchased during the 2020 calendar year expire on Dec. 31, 2020Fuelwood permits for next year will be available for purchase in spring 2021.

If you plan to cut and gather fuelwood on the Santa Fe National Forest, please remember to:

·       Bring your fuelwood permit and tags with you when collecting fuelwood.

·       Review the Fuelwood Area maps and firewood guide available on the Santa Fe National Forest website.

·       Check the weather forecast and road conditions. Be prepared for seasonal fluctuations. Some forest roads susceptible to damage under severe weather conditions are closed for the winter to protect public health and safety, infrastructure and natural resources.

·       Carry items in your vehicle to use in an emergency:

o   A shovel, chains, water and food

o   Sand or kitty litter (for vehicles that may get stuck in the snow)

o   Jumper cables, flashlight and warning devices (i.e., flares, emergency markers, etc.)

o   Blankets for protection from the cold

In the interest of public health and safety, please follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and comply with state public health orders to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
