Senate confirms appointment of Deborah K. Romero as Cabinet Secretary of DFA

By Department of Finance & Administration

The New Mexico Senate voted unanimously, confirming the appointment of Deborah “Debbie” K. Romero as Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). Secretary Romero brings over 40 years of state government experience to the Cabinet Secretary position, most of her tenure at DFA.

“Secretary Romero has been a diligent and thoughtful public servant for decades. Her experience is unmatched. I’m grateful to both the Senate for their collegial support of her formal nomination and to the secretary for her willingness to serve her state,” said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

“I want to thank the Governor for appointing me to this distinguished position. I come from a long line of family members who were public servants, including my mother, a state employee, and my father, a New Mexico State Police officer. Witnessing my parents’ sacrifices and commitment taught me to work hard, be strong, and a positive influence in my community and state,” said Cabinet Secretary Romero. “I’m grateful to Senator Wirth for sponsoring my confirmation and to all the Senators for the unanimous confirmation. As the Cabinet Secretary of DFA, I will continue to serve with compassion, commitment, and love for the great state of New Mexico.”

Before confirmation, Secretary Romero most recently served as the Acting Cabinet Secretary and State Budget Director; this is her first Cabinet Secretary position after a storied career in state government.
