St. Michael’s girls soccer team remained on the unbeaten trail

By Arnie Leshin
So far so good for the undefeated St. Michael’s girls soccer team’s first-year head coach Alfonso Camarena.
After shutting down Gallup Rehoboth Christian, 2-0, Friday afternoon for the second time and again played at Sandia Prep in Albuquerque, Camarena’s girls are now 6-0-1 overall. with the lone goal coming in the 2-1 opening win against visiting Sandia Prep. After that, it was shutouts over Rehoboth, Monte del Sol and East Mountain, with a shoreless tie at Los Alamos in a non-district match.
That brought the Lady Horsemen’s total goals to 33 and only one allowed.
“We would have scored more,” Camarena said. “but the referees made two invalid calls, so as it was, senior Olivia Farrah scored our first goal just before halftime, and senior Rachel Morgan added a penalty kick with about 12 minutes left.”
It was once again a stout St. Michael’s defense and junior goalkeeper Milena Keene had an easy time because of it, with no shots coming her way.
The Lady Horsemen play next on Tuesday at Monte del Sol in Santa Fe. On April 1st they are home to East Mountain, and on April 3rdthey play at Albuquerque Bosque School. The initial win over Rehoboth was 9-0.
