In girls basketball, The Academy of Technology and The Classics is going one way and Los Alamos another way.
Undefeated is the 2A Phoenix, with its seventh win coming with Monday’s 46-11 non-district rout over 3A Santa Fe Prep that follows up the previous almost identical 46-14 romp over the Griffins.  ATC plays next at home against Monte del Sol, and has now scored 317 points and allowed 127 under head coach Ron Drake. Prep dropped to 1-3 and plays next on Thursday versus visiting Albuquerque Bosque School.
In the 20-school 2A group, Pecos and Mescalero Apache are also unbeaten, both at 5-0, and Tatum is 4-0.
But for winless Los Alamos, the news wasn’t good. Monday night‘s 53-36 defeat at Pojoaque Valley in District 2-4A was its eighth straight, while the Elkettes snapped a four-game losing skein and upped their overall mark to 2-5. The Hilltoppers next play at district leading Espanola Valley (7-1) Wednesday night. Pojoaque’s next stop is at home Friday versus the Sundevils.
Also in 2-4A, Taos advanced to 5-3 overall by turning in a 49-43 triumph at Moriarty.. The Tigers trailed 10-5 after the first quarter, led 21-20 at the intermission, fell behind 33-29 heading into the fourth quarter, but then outscored the Pintos, 20-10, over the final eight minutes to drop the Pintos also to 5-3 overall.
In non-district play, visiting 3A West Las Vegas turned back Mora, 50-26, by taking a 17-9 lead after one quarter and upping it to 30-11 at halftime. It put the Dons at 4-3overall and 4A Mora lost for the third time in eight starts.
ATC’s current leading scorer is freshman Perla Miramontes with a 14.2 per-game average, and she also leads in steals with 3.6. The top Phoenix in rebounds is freshman Charli Koseoglu with 8.2, while sophomore Chanelle Jaeger paves the way in assists with 3.4, and junior Ananya Mulakala in blocked shots with 0.4.
In Tuesday games, there’s a doubleheader at Christian Life, with Monte del Sol’s girls playing host to Estancia in the 3:30 p.m.opener, and the Dragons boys closing with a 5 p.m. scheduled tip-off against Estancia.
In another doubleheader, Pecos is home to Santa Fe Prep in non-district play, with the girls in the 5:30 first game, and the boys playing game two at the scheduled 7 p.m.time.
