All-District 2-3A boys and girls basketball teams had a quartet from St. Michael’s boys and a pair from the Lady Horsemen

Four boys and two girls from St. Michael’s were named to the All-District 2-3A
basketball team.
While 6-foot-2 junior guard Devin Flores of the Horsemen was chosen Co-Defensive Player of the Year along with 5-10 junior guard Damian Gallegos of West Las Vegas, selected to the team from St. Michael’s were 6-2 junior Lucas Cortz, 6-1 junior Derek Martinez and 6-0 senior Lucas Montoya.
Of the girls, the Lady Horsemen making the team were 5-7 senior guard Rachel Morgan and 5-7 junior forward Claire Patten. Both were also members of the state championship soccer team, and Morgan was named soccer tournament Most Valuable Player.
Girls Coach of the Year was West Las Vegas’ Miranda Martinez, with her Dons going 9-4 overall and winning the district at 5-1. They were 2nd-seeded in the state tournament.
Boys Coach of the Year was Robertson’s Manuel Romero, whose team went 13-1 overall, won the district at 8-0, and was the top seed for the state tournament.
Also on the girls team was West Las Vegas’ senior guard Jennifer Sanchez, 5-3 sophomore point guard Madison Marquez, sophomore guard Gabriella Salinas, and Dons’ 5-3 senior guard Brianna Marquez was chosen Player of the Year and she averaged 23.5 points a game.
From Robertson’s girls was Offensive Player of the year, 5-10 junior forward Jayden Jenkins, who averaged 16.7 points per game, 5-6 8th-grader Alexis Pacheco, and 5-4 sophomore guard Azlan Padilla. Defensive Player of the Year was 5-1 junior guard Kaitlin Anquello of the Cardinals.
Seniors Baylor Walton and Anna Acosta made the team from Raton.
From Robertson’s boys was 5-8 senior guard Nicholas Marrujo, the Player of the Year, and on the team was 5-7 junior Matthew Gonzales, 6-3 senior Derek Montano, 5-10 senior Cody Rivera, and 6-3 freshman Mateo Contreras.
Santa Fe Prep senior Sam Cooper was selected along with Raton juniors Matthew Gonzales and Dillon Querteri. Offensive Player of the Year was 6-1 senior wing DJ Byron of West Las Vegas, who averaged 27 points a game.
