NMAA FOUNDATION AWARDS TO STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Seniors Olivia Farrar of St. Michael’s, Larissa Scott of Santa Fe Indian School, and Vanessa Dominguez of Pecos are among those awarded student scholarships by the New Mexico Activities Association Foundation.
A grand total of 48 recipients were announced by the NMAA of the 2020-2021 foundation scholarships. The NMAA Foundation will recognize these students who will receive their scholarships during the state track and field championships that will be held June 17-19 and June 25-26.
Over 300 students were nominated or submitted applications, with a total of $53,500 being distributed through 48 different scholarships.
There were a dozen scholarship categories, with one being the special Together We Rise Scholarships that was created this school year due to the challenges brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic, and in an effort to support even more youngsters during these difficult times.
Farrar, who played for the state championship St. Michael’s girls soccer team,
with receive $2,000, with the 24 other recipients of this Together We Rise Scholarship receiving $1,000.
Indian school’s Scott will receive $1,000 via the Ralph Ortiz BPOE Elks Club of Santa Fe Scholarship.
Pecos’ Dominguez. state 2A cross country champion, will receive $1,000 for being awarded the Mike Mittelstaedt Memorial Scholarship.
Sophia Sena of Espanola Valley receives $1,500 from the Pedro & Metro Sandoval Strong Family Scholarship.
All the others will receive $1,000. The former late St. Michael’s basketball coach Dick Shelley Basketball Scholarship goes to Albuquerque Eldorado
s Maria Barela and Hot Springs’ Verrels Eugenero.
Las Cruses Centennials’ Hannah Henricadks and Hobbs’ Elena Trevino for the El Richards/Francis Walsh Spirit Scholarship presented by Varsity Spirit, Espanola Valley’s Sophia Sena for the Pedro & Mateo Sandoval Strong Family Scholarship, and Kennedy Smiley of Gallup also for the scholarship award won by Larissa Scott.
Cora Mullins of Piedra Vista for the Santa Fe Knights of Columbus Scholarship, and Juan Branch of Espanola Valley also for the same scholarship award won by Vanessa Dominguez.
The longest list is for the Together We Rise Scholarship also won by Olivia Farrar.
They are Jace McNabb of Belen, Mason Van Otteson of Piedra Vista, Taylor Mick-Keck of Rio Rancho Cleveland, Rozello Acantilado of Bernalillo, Jinty Albin of Quemado, Owen Alsup of Roswell Goddard, Tunte Baca of Mescalero Apache, Reaghan Boyden of Eldorado, Jacob Cook of Cloudcroff, Maurie Daniels of Pine Hill, and Hayden Dean of Eunice.
Also, Nana Dorame of Albuquerque High, Arissa Frazier of Eunice, Angel Gonzales of Tularosa, Emily Hervol of Carlsbad, Taylor Jones of Albuquerque Rio Grande, Jesse Murphy of Albuquerque Valley, Maya Ortiz of Albuquerque Sandia, Julienne Rirsimah of West Las Vegas, Nathan Slota of Albuquerque High, Haleigh Soffera of Onate, Coy Wagner of Artesia, Baylor Walton of Raton, and Isaiah Zunic of Oak Grove Classical Academy.
There’s also the Gary Tripp NMAA Extraordinary Participation Scholarship presented by US Bank receiving $2,000 for Hobbs’ Brayden Strickland and Famington’s Asa White, the same amount to Logan’s Kembry Burns and Capitan’s Kirby Hightower for being awarded the Mario Martinez Memorial NMAA Extraordinary Participation Scholarship.
$1,000 each goes to the Complete With Class Scholarships presented by the New Mexico National Guard to Roswell’s Winnie Keller, Lovington’s Ryan Marquez, Texico’s Grace McDaniel, Miyamura’s Savannah Montgomery, and Ruidoso’s Ryan Segura.
The same amount will be received by Roy’s Riley Clavel and Albuquerque Volcano Vista’s Johnny Herrera for the Dan & Lucille Wood/Gray Gladiator Scholarship presented by Subway, as well as the Activities Scholarship also presented by Subway to Santa Fe Waldorf’s Deedee Jansen and Albuquerque La Cueva’s Luke Xue.
