Several Boat Ramps Closed at New Mexico State Parks

By NM Parks

The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, State Parks Division announces boat ramp closures throughout the state. Due to extended and widespread drought conditions, water levels in many state park lakes are at extremely low levels. These conditions have forced the closure of boat ramps in some parks for public safety concerns and to prevent property damage during launching and loading of boats.

Storrie Lake State Park near Las Vegas will close its boat ramp to all motorized vessels effective immediately. Paddle craft and other non-motorized craft are still allowed at Storrie Lake.

Boat ramp closures are also in effect at:

Clayton Lake, Conchas Lake, Elephant Butte Lake (South Monticello Ramp), El Vado (North Ramp), Heron Lake, and Santa Rosa Lake State Parks.

Hand launching of paddle craft or small vessels from the shoreline is allowed.

Always make safety is your first priority, being prepared on the water could save your life and the lives of your loved ones. State law requires that you wear a lifejacket when on a canoe, kayak, or raft, and that all children 12 years old and younger wear a lifejacket while on the deck of a moving vessel.

Day-use fees are $5 per vehicle.  It is important for visitors to continue to check for details on specific park hours of operation and additional information before visiting. Check the State Parks website and know before you go. Park visitors are reminded that park staff are enforcing the current public health order.
