Three times on the podium for Pojoaque Valley senior Alicia Quintana

It was a good day for Pojoaque Valley senior Alicia Quintana at Saturday’s 4A state track and field championship at the University of New Mexico complex.
One of the favorites in the 400 meters, she finisher second in 1:01, just a stride or two behind the winner. In the 100 meters, she dashed 12.96 to place third and just a step behind the first two. In the 200 meters, she ran fifth in 27:36 in what was a close finish.
Not bad, she qualified for these three races and landed on the podium each time. Her sophomore sister, Sonya, also dashed the 100 and 200, but did not fare as well.
Another Elkette senior, Hennessci Calabaza, threw the shot put 33-02 to claim fourth place, and in the discus, she has a best of 96-04 to take seventh place, and she got to step up on the podium one time.
The accomplishments by the two brought Pojoaque 18 points and seventh place in the girls team scoring.
Calabaza settled for 11th place in the javelin with a  best heave of 87-08.
In the boys field, the Elks’ lone qualifier was sophomore Adam Pacheco and he came in 11th in the javelin with a best of 128-02.
