By Arnie Leshin
Losing for the fourth straight time to undefeated, District 2-3A rival Robertson eliminated the visiting St. Michael’s softball team from the state tournament in Monday afternoon‘s quarterfinals.
Seeded 7th, the Lady Horsemen finished at 11-9 with the 14-0 defeat at the Cardinals’ field. The district champion, Robertson advanced to 17-0 and now faces 3rd-seeded district foe West Las Vegas, which got past 6th-seeded visiting Navajo Prep, 4-2, and will head crosstown Wednesday for the contest at the Cardinals.
Robertson wrapped this one up in five innings when the mercy-rule ended this after the home team scored three in the first, five in the second, four in the third, and added two more in the fourth. The Cardinals have already won their three starts against the Dons, 10-6, 8-6, and 19-6, and WLV enters the 3A semifinals at 15-5.
In the other quarterfinals, top-seeded Dexter (17-2) routed visiting 8th-seeded Socorro, 15-0, with the run-rule also applying here. It will play 4th-seeded Cobre, which disposed of 6th-seeded East Mountain, 12-2.
Robertson has had a big hit parade this season, scoring 362 runs and allowing only 52. West Las Vegas had crossed the plate 246 times and have yielded 95.
