Boat Ramp Opens at Conchas Lake State Park

By EMNRD

Due to recent significant rainfall in San Miguel County and surrounding areas, Conchas Lake State Park will open the Cove Recreation Area boat ramp effective tomorrow, Friday, July 9th. However, boaters are urged to exercise caution as underwater hazards may be present due to changing water levels.

“We’re glad to see widespread precipitation across this region of the state,” stated Jared Langenegger, Northeast Region Manager. “Boaters should watch for floating debris and be prepared and aware of inclement weather conditions before getting out on the lake.”

Just northwest of Tucumcari, this lake features secluded coves, canyons, and sandy beaches, excellent for camping, boating, and fishing. One of New Mexico’s largest lakes, you can explore the Conchas River or the South Canadian River portions of the lake.

While out on the lake, always make safety your priority, being prepared on the water could save your life and the lives of your loved ones. State law requires that you wear a lifejacket when on a canoe, kayak, or raft and that all children 12 years old and younger wear a lifejacket while on the deck of a moving vessel.

The State Parks Division offers FREE boating safety classes around the state and on-line throughout the year. For more information please visit our website athttp://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/.
