It’s the first time for baseball in the summer Olympics and the United States has made it to the Wednesday semifinals

It’s the first time for baseball in the summer Olympics and the United States has made it to the Wednesday semifinals against the Dominican Republic, with the other semis paring host Japan with South Korea.
The Americans have won their first two starts, as has Japan. South Korea and the Dominican Republic is all even at 1-1.
In the women’s gymnastics finals Sunday, the floor exercises went to 18-year-American Jade Carey of Arizona as she rung up 14.366 points. Super gymnast Simone Biles of the US, who withdraw from the competition after a disappointing vault, returned in the final round to claim third place in the beams.
In women’s full-team indoor volleyball, the Americans (4-1) take on Dominican Republic (2-3) in the quarterfinals. In the other quarters, unbeaten Brazil (5-0) lines up against the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) (3-2), and Serbia (4-2) plays Italy (3-2). The other round-of-8 match-up will be decided today.
In beach volleyball, the USA (3-0) has gained the quarters versus Switzerland (2-1), there’s also Lativa (2-1) against undefeated Canada (3-0), Australia (2-1) talking on China (2-1), and the remaining round-of-8 pairing will also be decided today.
In women’s basketball, the Americans had a tough go with France before prevailing 79-68 and gaining the quarterfinals, with the French also qualifying for the quarters by losing by less than 14 points.
The United States (2-1) men’s basketball team is in the Tuesday quarterfinals in a rematch with Spain (2-1) whom it turned back in a previous group game, while unbeaten France (3-0) which stunned the US in the group opener, goes against Italy (2-1), and Argentina (1-2) faces undefeated Slovenia (3-0), and the final quarters will be chosen today.
What has been the COVID-19 pandemic protocol restrictions, still applies, with events held in Tokyo in its surrounding areas not allowing fans in the stands. Some other events held in other areas are excepting a limited number of spectators.
Then there’s the suffering athletes constantly requesting cold water, spectators seeking more comfort indoors, with these events occupying more seats. Night time hours have had some breeze, but with some hotels charging extra for air conditioning.
