New Hampshire, the surprising New England Region champion, runs up a 14-6 outcome

By Arnie Leshin
It was a wild and puzzling second game in Tuesday’s Major Little League Baseball World Series doubleheader at Howard B. Lamarde Stadium in South Williamsport, Pa.
And it was Adam Sandler who postponed a film rehearsal to watch New Hampshire play Oregon Tuesday afternoon. He appeared very hyped up and said he could hardly wait for the first pitch.
And the actor sent a message directed to the New England Region champions.
“Guys, we have your back, our support, as we were the only Little League team from New Hampshire to reach the LL World Series finals. We lost, but now we have you to follow, and I did get in touch with many of my former teammates, and most did not not follow this, but they did after we spoke. So get out there, win again, and maybe we’ll see you in the finals. Oh. and for this happy occasion, I even postponed a film rehearsal for today, and maybe for your next game.  — Signed Adam Sandler.
Gee, hope he got to see the three home runs clouted by the New Hampshire
kids, with all three gone as soon as they left the bat. And so it’s obvious they can put them over the fence, but so can the other teams still remaining.
The opening game that saw Texas West survive in the 2-1 elimination tussle by ousting New Jersey, was quite a wait after an inclement weather delay lasted almost two hours for a contest scheduled for 11 a.m. that finally made its initial pitch in the early afternoon.
Then along came game two in another elimination win or else or go home. Oregon had been to several Little League regions and World Series, but this is something new for the New Hampshire group from the town of Hooksett.
First, it jumped all over Oregon starting right-hander and best pitcher Ben Robinson, scoring twice in the opening frame and adding six runs in the second. After already making 60 pitches, Robinson exited after three innings.
In the last of the second, Oregon took advantage of four New Hampshire errors, some on easy grounders, some on wild throws, as it came up with six runs of its own before the third out was made and New Hampshire couldn’t believe it would play that poorly. Of course, the hit parade offset this.
So up 8-6 after only two innings, New Hampshire settled in to score in each frame, one and one in the third and fourth, and two and two in the last two. It finished with 16 hits, nine more than Oregon, and the combined total of 20 runs by the two was a record for the present World Series.
But Lake Oswego couldn’t find any more runs. It had a wild six in the second inning and then found it difficult to connect against the likes of 5-foot-3 righty Jacoby Acevido, who took the mound in the fourth, showed amazing composure, was up and down with his control, but on long counts he usually had the upper hand.
He never showed any reaction, just kept firing away. Nothing appeared to upset him, not even balls and strikes by the home plate umpire.
He struck out the side in the fifth, whiffed the first two batters in the sixth before giving up a single up the middle and then striking out the final hitter. He did show a happy smile, but left the pitching to his arm. He threw 72 pitches, struck out seven, walked two, and hit one batter.
Now New Hampshire faces Ohio, the Midwest Region runner-up. It is also 2-1, but the Hooksett youngsters need to find quality hurlers in what has become  back-to-back tussles, and Ohio has had the extra day off.
Also on Wednesday, it’s the clash of the undefeated quartet all at 2-0, In the 3 p.m.scheduled start, South Dakota takes on Southern California and in the 5:30finale, it will be Michigan versus Hawaii. All four won their respective regions.
The two winners remain in that bracket, the losers drop to that bracket, South Dakota and Southern California are on top the Tom Seaver Bracket, Hawaii and Michigan lead the Hank Aaron Bracket, both being honored as the late Hall of Famers who were elite and respected in our National Pastime.
