Sarca Fire Update

Location: Pecos Wilderness, Española Ranger District, Santa Fe National Forest, approximately 8 air miles southeast of Chimayo, NM.

Fuels: Ponderosa pine/Douglas fir at approximately 9,000 feet elevation.

Resources: 8 firefighters

Operations: Firefighters hiked in and were able to construct handline around the fire before afternoon thunderstorms rolled in. The fire was creeping and smoldering the past few days which explains the increase in acreage. Firefighters will continue to engage in suppression tactics when it is safe.

Weather: Showers and thunderstorms are predicted for the area for the remainder of today and tomorrow.

Values at risk: The Sarca Fire is located within the Pecos Wilderness and there are no immediate values at risk.

Safety: The health and safety of firefighters and the public are always the first priority.

Restrictions: Currently, there are no closures or restrictions for the Sarca Fire.

Smoke: Smoke from the Sarca Fire will be visible from surrounding communities including Española, Chimayo, and Truchas.
