Two up, two down is the good news for the Santa Fe High foo

Two up, two down is the good news for the Santa Fe High football team.
Led by senior quarterback Luc Jaramillo, who opened up more on the ground with fellow senior Martell Mora carrying the ball, and he mixing up the run and pass in Friday night‘s 27-13 non-district win at Moriarty.
It followed on the heels of the 34-8 pouncing over visiting Robertson in last week’s opener at Ivan Head Stadium, and head coach Andrew Martinez’s program has now won its first two for the first time since 2006.
Now comes two key tests, next Friday nighton a visit from St. Michael’s, and the following Friday night at Capital. The Demons can no doubt make a statement if they win both of these. From there they tackle the District 5-6A schedule versus the Albuquerque schools.
Jaramillo, whose brother, Cross, played for St. Michael’s and then Capital, is in his fourth year as the starter and was looking ahead to running the ball more. He scrambled at times, broke off a 16-yard run up the middle on the way to Martell Mora’s 15-yard touchdown run.
In one sequence the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Jaramillo was trapped deep in his own territory, but he handled it well by finding senior wide receiver Isaiah Madril on a 15-yard pass play, handed off to Mora to reach midfield, and then the 5-9, 180-pound Mora capped the drive with a 21-yard run into the end zone.
The Demons’ defense also played well, with senior outside linebacker Adan Chavez paving the way and in one instant knocking down a pass thrown by the Pintos’ quarterback.
Meanwhile, Pojoaque Valley rolled past visiting Santa Fe Indian School, 64-12, a week after shutting down Shiprock at home, 52-0. The Elks are happy that they have outscored two inferior foes, 116-12, and their weak schedule might
might bring a winning season, but don’t bet on it.
Friday they play at Cuba, which lost its opener at Indian School, then are home against 0-2 Albuquerque Highland, followed by 0-2 Thoreau, then at win less Gallup, which has yet to score, then will run into a visit from Albuquerque Hope Christian, play at Moriarty and then home to Taos. Oh, and they hit the road to play win less Espanola Valley, whom they shellacked 50-0 back in April of last season.
Winning record? Possible, but no post-season playoffs.
Meanwhile, Espanola is having a tough go and comes off a 54-0 setback at Bernalillo. At Los Alamos, the Hilltoppers edged Taos, 14-12, at Robertson, it was a 46-0 rout over Cobre, and on Thursday night West Las Vegas won 46-26, at Santa Rosa.
This afternoon, St. Michael’s is home to city rival Capital.
In other Friday contests, Raton pounded Jal, 35-7, Los Lunas did away with Alamogordo, 50-0, Valencia topped Albuquerque Del Norte, 36-6, Rio Rancho disposed of Albuquerque’s La Cueva, 20-0, Artesia turned back Hobbs, 27-14, Farmington handily rolled over Belen, 53-13, and Cibola blanked Las Cruces, 19-0.
Then there was Gallup again going scoreless in a 40-0 loss to Grants, Roswell Goddard winning over Carlsbad, 24-7, Piedra Vista downing Albuquerque Valley, 16-6, and Aztec turning back Montezuma-Cortez of Colorado, 26-13.
