Water levels have increased due to recent rains

By NM Parks

Due to recent significant rainfall in Guadalupe County, Santa Rosa Lake State Park will open the boat ramp effective Saturday, August 7th.

“We’re glad that boaters and anglers once again have access to the lake by boat,” stated Stefan Conkle, Park Manager. “Our goal is to ensure that visitors can get out and fully enjoy their state parks.” Due to low lake levels, Santa Rosa Lake State Park will operate as a no-wake lake until conditions improve.

Santa Rosa Lake State Park is on the plains of eastern New Mexico and offers fishing, boating, camping, and hiking, as well as abundant bird watching opportunities. Equestrians are welcome at the Los Tanos Campground.

While out on the lake, always make safety your priority, being prepared on the water could save your life and the lives of your loved ones. State law requires that you wear a lifejacket when on a canoe, kayak, or raft and that all children 12 years old and younger wear a lifejacket while on the deck of a moving vessel.

The State Parks Division offers free boating safety classes around the state and online throughout the year. For more information please visit our website at https://www.emnrd.nm.gov/spd/
