Engineering Education Enrichment | e3 Initiative

By NM State

NMSU’s College of Engineering invites engineering professionals to join the Engineering Education Enrichment | e3 Initiative as mentors to students. The Initiative offers eligible engineering undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue industry-valued certifications, design project experiences, and/or entrepreneurship training at no cost to them!

Now in our second year and with feedback from past mentors, we have updated the mentor role to include three specific objectives that will help the mentors visualize what we are asking them to do while giving them a clearer picture of their anticipated time commitment.

Mentors will serve students as experienced connections to the real world of work where professionals must set goals, meet deadlines, overcome obstacles, and plan for their future. We are not asking mentors to manage projects, replace engineering faculty, or provide technical guidance. The mentor role is intended to help students mature in their approach to communications with others, teamwork, goal-setting and problem-solving — developing the mindset of a working professional.

More than 100 students have expressed interest in the e3 Initiative; now we are recruiting mentors! Please visit our website to learn more about the three objectives and the anticipated time commitment. Express your interest by completing the Mentor Interest Form.
