It was another victory for St. Michael’s freshman phenom Raylee Hunt

The 8th annual John Grimley Memorial Cross Country Invite brought 243 runners to Saturday morning‘s 5,000 meter race over the Pueblo course in Santa Fe.
In the girls varsity run, it was St. Michael’s freshman phenom Raylee Hunt coming from an impressive run at the annual Desert Twilight Festival in Arizona, and handily pacing the field of 61 in an eased-up time of 19:55.91, with rising Santa Fe Prep 8th-grader Sophie Bair the runner-up in 20:29.71.
Third was Academy of Technology and The Classic’s junior Josette Gurule racing 20:48.50, fourth was Prep freshman Mya Griego in 21:12.62, and rounding out the top five was Santa Fe Indian School’s Analeya Marques  finishing in 21:20.29.
The girls team title went to the host Braves with 51 points. Second was Santa Fe Prep with 62, ATC was next with 75, and eighth was Pecos with 164 in a field of 18 schools, some of which did not have full teams.
In the junior varsity girls race, the winner was Taylor Poncho of Indian School in 24:22. In the shorter middle school run, it was the Nada Cedillo paving the way in the time of 15:03.98.
John Grimley passed away in 2012 after an impressive run as Santa Fe Indian
School’s head track and field and cross county coach.
